Artist Residency

Latitude For Art operates a solo artist residency within an existing 1920’s apartment building with lush gardens and grand view over Echo Park, Los Angeles.  The other apartments are occupied by a long term creative community in 5 apartments.

We offer dedicated time and space to focus on creative work, and the chance to experiment with new techniques or concepts. We provide a supportive environment for artists to reflect on their practice, and connect with other artists and the local community in beautiful walkable Echo Park, Los Angeles. 

The residency consists of a large top floor studio apartment with tables for different types of work, an antique writing desk, a sturdy easel, wall space for working or display, great natural light and good artificial light.   There is a comfortable couch that folds out to a queen sized bed.  The original tiled kitchen has a 1939 stove, modern fridge/freezer, microwave, toaster oven, kettle and drip coffee machine, etc.

While the apartment is on the top floor, it can be accessed from the alley behind the building with no steps, using a gentle ramp from the dedicated parking space.  It should be noted that the old architecture does not have wide enough doors for a wheelchair.  The rest of the property, such as the attractive garden where our events are held, is accessed by concrete stairs with a handrail.

We offer a stay of 14 days or less (to be decided upon in advance) for solo or a couple (tight quarters) at no cost to the artist.  We encourage at least one event during your stay to be worked out with a member of the committee, where our email list and neighbours are invited.   If the residency artist would like to offer an outdoor workshop, we can accommodate that.
